Your Most Frequently Asked Questions

Every day I seem to spend a
lot of time answering the same questions over and
over so to save both of us
some time here are the answers to the questions I am most frequently asked.
Please check the list below to see if your question is here.
Due to the fact I am rarely on the computer these days any other questions will have to be refered to the team Shawn is with at the time.
Q: Can you please give me an e-mail address where I can write to Shawn?
A: You can write to Shawn co/ the team he is playing with at the time.
Make sure to mark your message "Shawn Green" in the subject line.
I doubt you will receive a reply, but it maybe worth a try. (Thanks to Kellee for the info)
Q: Can you give me his home address/phone number?
A: No, Even if I did have it, (which I don't) I would never reveal anything like this. Privacy comes first. Thanks for understanding.
Q: Where can I write to Shawn?
A: You can write to Shawn via the team he is playing for at the time. Please do not expect a personal reply though as he receives hundreds of letters each and every week.
Q: Can you send me an autographed ball, photo, card etc.
A: Sorry I can't obtain autographs for anyone. The best part of getting an autograph is getting it yourself anyway. That way you have a special memory to go along with your autograph :-)
Q: I sent Shawn a card to be signed over a month ago. Why hasn't he sent it back?
A: Remember you are just one of thousands who want an item autographed. It may take many months before it comes back if at all. Please be patient. Also see footnote above.
Q: Can I buy your personal pictures?
A: Sorry no! The site is fully non profit apart from the "Trading Post" card store. All proceeds from that go to charity. Photos cost way too much to duplicate in Canada so it would cost more than their actual worth to buy them. Apart from that they all have memories for me. Getting your own pictures is so much more fun anyway :-)
Q: I want Shawn to attend a charity event, Bar Mitzvah, our school etc. How do I go about this?
A: I suggest you write to the team Shawn is with at the time via snail mail. Honestly I have never had anyone write back and say they were successful though.
Please remember that thousands of others have the same request. Due to very limited time please don't be upset with him if he can't attend your event. Also write many, many months before the event if possible. This will give you a much greater chance of success. Asking for something "this coming weekend," has no chance at all. Just like everything else you need to plan ahead.
Q: How can I meet Shawn?
A: The only way I would suggest is to attend a game either at home or on the road. Shawn signs autographs whenever he can, but there are no guarantees. It may take many visits before you get your wish. It may not happen at all or you may just be lucky first time around.
Also photo day, charity events and autograph days at the Stadium are great chances too. You maybe lucky enough to catch him either entering or leaving the ballpark also. (Don't go chasing cars or busses though like I have seen done many times. They just are not going to stop and you may very well get badly hurt.) Good luck! I hope your dreams come true:-)
I would not advocate people trying to find his home (this could also land you in trouble with the police) or bothering him when he is on his own personal time such as at restaurants, the movies, at the beach or any other private time. This is just that his private time. It should be kept that way.
Q: Are the stories on "The Day I Met Shawn Green" all true?
A: I do my best to have people verify what they sent, but some don't have any proof. They just seem plausible that they have happened the way the author says they happened. Some seem so far fetched that I will not include them, but most have included a picture of when they met him at a ball game or event etc. Patrick Abbott sent me photos of he and Shawn as small children, and Brooke Johnson's parents sent me a photo of Brooke in hospital with her Shawn autographs. The couple who met Shawn and Lindsay at the jewelry store in Toronto described Lindsay very well when very few people knew who she was. If it seems like it maybe true then I include it. There's not any more I can do on this. I do believe all of the ones included to be true. I have to rely on honesty for this section.
Q: I would like to be a staff member on the site. How much do you pay?
A: My staff members are volunteers. I can't afford to pay them. I have to pay every month to keep the site as I don't like any of the free servers and it's the only way to keep my personal URL. Anyone is welcome to submit anything for the site as long as they understand there is no payment except a few Shawn cards every now and again for my regular staff.
A: Why don't you have Shawn's fielding stats?
Q: If I could find all of his fielding stats for the minor leagues I would add them, but seeing as I can't find them anywhere I will stick to just the batting stats and his error stats. At the end of each season I add the stats to the bio and I like to keep the layout the same for each season. If you or anyone you know has his complete fielding stats all through the minors I will be more than happy to add them.
Q: I want to make a website. Can you help me?
A: I really would love to, but I just don't have the time. Between my family, my job and "A Tribute To Shawn Green," my time is very, very limited.
Sites like Geocities, Tripod and Angelfire all offer great programs to help you out even if you don't know any HTML at all.
Q: I love the site but why did
you make it just on Shawn?
A: I wanted to make a site and baseball is my main passion outside of my home.
To make a site on the whole team would make it too general. I wanted to do
something more in-depth. At the time there were only 2 Shawn sites on the net
made by fans (I don't think there are any on just Shawn anymore that are updated
although there is one with a good section on Shawn @: http://www.geocities.com/jayfan15/
) so I decided to make one on
on Shawn focusing on just Shawn.
Over time I decided I would make a smallish sub-section with tributes to some other great people, but this will always be just "an extra section." The site is dedicated to Shawn and that's the way it will stay.
Q: I bought an autographed item of Shawn's but now I think the autograph is a fake. How can I tell?
A: Some items come with certificates of authenticity. This sometimes can help ensure the item is authentic, but I have known items with certificates to be fake also.
You can send me a picture of the autograph and I can give you my best guess, but I'm no expert. I do have many, many of Shawn's autographs myself, so I do know what it should look like, but lots of people out there can do very good fakes.
I always suggest just go with what you can get yourself in person or items that come direct from a manufacturer with a certificate built into the item like on the authentic cards from Upper Deck, Fleer etc. Also anything direct from the Dodgers would be okay also.
I myself would never buy anything else autographed in a store. Although many would be genuine, many are not. It's always a risk. If you do buy from a store only go to the ones with a high reputation for genuine autographs. Sadly the people who make the fakes make it hard for the buyers and the genuine sellers.
Sadly if you do buy a fake there is little you can do, so buyer beware!
My best advice, "if in doubt don't even consider it."
Q: Why are there no pictures of Lindsay or Shawn's children on the site?
A: Shawn's family are not public figures so I don't believe I should have pictures of her here.
